Chi deve sostenere il test

Tutti gli studenti che si iscrivono per la prima volta all'Università al Corso di Laurea in Biosciences and Biotechnology devono sostenere una verifica della preparazione iniziale.

Il test è obbligatorio, ma non impedisce l'immatricolazione. È quindi possibile immatricolarsi anche prima di averlo sostenuto.

Struttura del test

Discipline scientifiche: la verifica si svolge in lingua inglese ed è composta da tre moduli:

  • Matematica di base: 10 quesiti
  • Chimica: 10 quesiti
  • Biologia: 10 quesiti

Competenze linguistiche:

  • Inglese livello B2: 10 quesiti
  • Italiano livello B2: 10 quesiti, per studenti non madrelingua italiana

Programmi

Matematica: potenze, radicali, prodotti notevoli, Ruffini, scomposizione di polinomi, frazioni algebriche, equazioni e disequazioni, sistemi, valori assoluti, piano cartesiano, retta, parabola, funzione esponenziale.

Chimica: tavola periodica, nomenclatura di base, atomo, elemento, isotopo, ione, molecola, numero atomico, massa, bilanciamento, numero di ossidazione, mole.

Biologia: molecole di interesse biologico, cellula procariotica ed eucariotica, gene, divisione cellulare, livelli di organizzazione biologica.

Esito e OFA

Il test si considera superato se lo studente risponde correttamente ad almeno 5 quesiti in ciascun modulo.

  • Se uno o più moduli non vengono superati, vengono assegnati gli OFA relativi alle discipline non superate.
  • Gli OFA devono essere assolti entro il primo anno accademico.
  • L'iscrizione agli esami degli anni successivi al primo è subordinata al loro assolvimento.
  • Gli OFA di Biologia, Chimica e Matematica si considerano assolti anche con 18 CFU acquisiti nel primo anno.
  • Per l'inglese e l'italiano sono previste nuove sessioni e supporto tramite Altissia.

Modalità di svolgimento

La verifica si svolge online nelle date pubblicate sul sito del Corso di Laurea. La registrazione è obbligatoria tramite il link dedicato entro il 14 settembre 2026, ore 12.

Regole della prova

Dopo la chiusura delle iscrizioni, i candidati ricevono via e-mail credenziali, link dell'aula virtuale e orario della prova.

Durante il test non è consentito comunicare con altre persone né consultare libri, siti web, appunti o altri materiali. La durata complessiva è di 60 minuti e i risultati vengono comunicati via e-mail.

Il test verra' riproposto tre volte nel corso dell'anno accademico 2026/2027.

Nota per TOLC-B

Gli studenti che hanno già superato il TOLC-B devono inviare in anticipo l'esito del test alla Coordinatrice del Corso di Laurea per verificare l'eventuale esonero dal test UNICAM.

Test of Background Knowledge

BSc. in Biosciences and Biotechnology (L2/L13)

Who must take the test

All students enrolling in the Biosciences and Biotechnology degree program at the University for the first time must take a background knowledge test.

The test is mandatory, but it does not affect enrollment. Students may therefore enroll even before taking it.

Structure of the test

Scientific subjects: the test is held in English and consists of three modules:

  • Basic Mathematics: 10 questions
  • Chemistry: 10 questions
  • Biology: 10 questions

Language skills:

  • English, B2 level: 10 questions
  • Italian, B2 level: 10 questions for non-native Italian speakers

Syllabi

Mathematics: powers, radicals, notable products, Ruffini's rule, factoring polynomials, algebraic fractions, equations and inequalities, systems, absolute values, Cartesian plane, line, parabola, exponential function.

Chemistry: periodic table, basic nomenclature, atom, element, isotope, ion, molecule, atomic number, mass, balancing reactions, oxidation number, mole.

Biology: molecules of biological interest, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, concept of gene, cell division, levels of biological organization.

Outcome and OFA

The test is considered passed if the student answers at least 5 questions correctly in each module.

  • If one or more modules are not passed, the student is assigned Additional Educational Obligations (OFA).
  • The OFA must be fulfilled within the first academic year.
  • Registration for second-year exams depends on completion of the assigned OFA.
  • OFA in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics are also considered fulfilled with 18 CFU achieved in first-year exams.
  • For English and Italian, new sessions and Altissia support are available.

How the test is held

The test takes place online on the dates published on the Degree Course website. Registration is mandatory through the dedicated link indicated on the website, before September 14 2026, 12 a.m.

Instructions and rules

After registration closes, candidates receive by e-mail their login credentials, the virtual classroom link and the test schedule.

During the test, candidates are not allowed to communicate with other people or consult books, websites, notes or other materials. The total duration is 60 minutes and results are communicated by e-mail.

The test will be repeated three times during Academic Year 2026/2027.

Note for TOLC-B students

Students who have already passed the TOLC-B must send their result in advance to the Degree Course Coordinator to verify possible exemption from the UNICAM test.
